General Discussion / Commercial License Request
« on: July 28, 2021, 10:12:45 pm »
Well boys, it has happened. We have a business asking if they can purchase a commercial license to the ME-DEM data. They make 3D wooden maps, and they have gotten a lot of requests for Middle Earth.

We are a small business building 3d wooden maps. On TikTok, one of our most requested maps was Middle Earth!
If interested, please check it out - https://www.tiktok.com/@lindentreedesigns/video/6987482968273063174

We would love to bring such a beauty to life and was wondering how to contact to purchase a commercial license.

Thanks and amazing work to the contributors!
Would love to send you all a wooden map of your amazing work

I just added a number of additional shapefiles to the repository. Namely, Citadels, Hamlets, Secondary Roads, Stonefields, TertiaryRoads, TowersAndKeeps, Vulcanism and Wetlands. Vulcanism and Wetlands should be of particular interest, since both of those include some important places.

Dang. Some of my brothers play Mount & Blade, I will have to point them to it.

That is a really nice render. Between you and Hellricer the GIS files are really improving.

Just to get this ME-DEM reunion really cooking, I sent SeerBlue an e-mail.

Hey Hellricer, I'm glad that you are working with the data! We have some additional shapefiles that I haven't uploaded. But the shapefiles on GitHub are the most up-to-date and detailed versions of themselves. I also use qgis. I'm glad that Leaflet is working for you. The custom coordinate system that we use is weird and often doesn't play nicely with webmaps.

Have you worked with Git before? Here is a tutorial: https://product.hubspot.com/blog/git-and-github-tutorial-for-beginners If you have a branch of the data and submit a pull request, I will approve it so that we can incorporate your changes.

General Discussion / New Webmap Link

Hey guys,

I am migrating my Webmap to a different host. The new address is:

http://jeremy.vangelders.us/openlayers2.html

I also intend the github repository to be a place where anyone can improve the GIS data.

Hi Stephen,

Sorry about the delay. Yes, you can do that. I am curious how you plan to display your progress? Would it be like the number of miles walked displayed along the Fellowship's path?

Hi Pflinch, welcome to ME-DEM!

I don't know if Monks will be able to provide a DEM. It sounds like his backups are a bit scattered right now. But I added the Contours_18 layer and the HelperContours layer to the GitHub repository. They were generated from our DEM several years ago. I hope they are useful, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Jeremy

Webhosts can be such a pain that way. I'm looking forward to whatever you will put up  :)

Hello everyone,

I'm restarting my push for a new webmap. To support that, I have put some of the GIS data on GitHub. As with all ME-DEM data, we prefer that anyone who uses it explains what they are using it for. But we do approve most personal and educational uses. Contributors are always welcome.
